the empire strikes back…

sign of the times…

Posted by abu ameerah on Thursday, August 9, 2007

A Dutch Member of Parliament (MP) has called for a complete ban on the Qur’an from the Netherlands. Once again, we see how ignorance rears its ugly head. Attacking Islam, or at least marginalizing Muslims, has become common in many European countries as former colonial powers feel forced to confront the issue of an enormous population growth among immigrants of middle eastern descent (Arabs from N. Africa, Turks, Pakistanis, black Africans from east & west Africa, etc). I suppose this is a sign of the times in which we live.

Add declining birth rates in Europe to the mix and you have a really desperate group of anti Islamic politicians.

It’s funny he should compare the Noble Qur’aan to ‘Mein Kampf’ and be a ‘far-right’ politician himself.

The only thing thats going far away and to the right is this mentality.

Let them ban it! No harm done. 🙂

Good point. Makes no sense…like much of what is coming out of Europe at the moment…

    @ Manas:

I doubt that the Qur’an would be banned in the Netherlands… but there still would be harm for Muslims. Instead of an outright ban on the Qur’an it is plausible that the Dutch Pariament may instead only allow government approved (or government sanctioned) translation of the Qur’an to be sold in the country.

I agree, let them ban it! The only thing that will happen is that it will become really cool to have a copy in the Netherlands and young people will be trading and collecting Qur’an’s like crazy, it will become the new “it”, inshaAllah. So let them ban it… and we’ll see what happens.

    Wa’Alaikumus Salaam,

Yeah … I was kinda thinking the same thing. Good point akhi…
