Stress can be fattening, study finds

The fat on your belly may be there because of stress in your everyday life, and researchers think they may know how to get rid of it.Studies of mice and monkeys show that repeated stress — and a high-fat, high-sugar diet — release a hormone, neuropeptide Y, that causes a buildup of abdominal fat, researchers from Georgetown University reported Sunday.

Manipulating levels of that hormone could melt fat from areas where it is not desired and accumulate it where it is needed, the researchers say in the journal Nature Medicine.

“These are eye-opening findings,” said neuroscientist Arshad Khan of USC, who was not involved in the research.

    yah
it’s also related to increased Cortisol levels due to stress

    google
    “Cortisol (insert comma here) Stress”

hmm they should look into what the Qur’an already proves in Surat Ar-Ra’ad
“Those who believe and whose hearts find rest in the remembrance of Allah, Verily, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest.”

So if we were to say, hearts find rest in the Remembrance of Allah. Islam (i.e. Iman)= Contententment, Tranquility, and Peace in the Heart.

And if we look at the opposite, i.e. disbelief, thus causes stress.

In a simple equation Kufr = Stress, Worry, and (see 1/3 of the Qur’an for proofs, or popular american culture icon lifestyle- i.e. Britney Spears new hairdo, etc.)

Hence we find, Elevated levels of Iman results in Elevated Contentment and Decreased levels of Stress; whereas Elevated levels of Kufr/Nifaq/Shirk results in Elevated Stress and Worry.

Not to mention both effects multiplied in the Hereafter.

Islam and Iman = Good Health,
    Alhamdulillah.

And Kufr/Shirk/Nifaq, perhaps Low Iman = Stress which in turn = weight gain, etc.

Further analysis shows, in statements of ‘Aishah who said “The first disaster which occurred to this community after the Prophet died was satiety. When people fill their stomachs, their bodies become fat, their hearts weak and their appetites ingrained.”

And then ‘Atiyya ibn ‘Amir al Juhani said that he heard Salman say when he was forced to eat some food, “It is enough for me that the Messenger of Allah, May Allah bless him and grant him peace, say, ’The people who fill themselves the most in this world will be the hungriest on the Day of Rising’”

And Ibn Bujayr, one of the Companions, said, “The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, felt hungry one day. He took a stone and tied it against his stomach and then said, ‘Those who eat well and are comfortable in this world will be hungry and naked on the Day of Rising. Anyone who humbles his lower self is being generous to it.’”

And many other narrations.. A sign of stress or, in general, obesity. One can diagnose the recommended dosage of raising one’s iman

Thus if Islam and Iman = Good Health, than Increased Iman = Better health, and
    Decreased Iman = Worse health.

    WAllahu ‘Alam
    WAlhamdulillah.
